Empowering Through Meals
Amid the crowded camps of Erbil, where displaced Kurdish families from Rojava have sought refuge from ISIS’s terror, the clatter of pots and the aroma of familiar dishes are beginning to emerge once more. Our recent distribution of food supplies and kitchen kits (including qable cooking pots and utensils) is helping displaced families reclaim the simple dignity of preparing their own meals.
The Power of a Home-Cooked Meal
Each carefully prepared aid package contains:
✓ Nutritional staples: Rice, bulgur, lentils, and cooking oil
✓ Essential cookware: Durable qable pots, cooking knives, and serving spoons
✓ Food preparation items: Cutting boards and mixing bowls
✓ Cultural staples: Tea glasses and traditional coffee pots
Why This Matters in the Camps?
For 35-year-old Amina from Kobani, now in Baharka camp:
“These pots mean I can finally make my children the meals they remember from home. The UN gives us rice, but now we can cook it properly – the way my mother taught me.”
